I started training in karate as a teenager back in Winnipeg and then took a break, 20 or so years, as I began a career and family in Alberta. I returned to karate training at age 39 with my oldest daughter, Lani. In a few short years, all four of my daughters were in karate. In addition to Kendall, two of my other daughters also earned their black belts. I now have three of my grandchildren training with me at Beaumont Karate-Do.
I earned my Shodan in May 2000, graded with Kendall. In 2005, I earned the rank of Nidan, I continued to train, compete and teach over the years. I currently hold the rank of Yondan (4th degree) in Karate and Shodan (1st degree) in Kobudo.
When not at karate, I spend my retirement time farming, I was a Chartered Accountant and ran my own business for over 30 years. My wife has always supported the family karate training from the sidelines and now enjoys watching her grandchildren train and compete too.
Favourite karate technique: Gyaku tsuki (reverse punch), it has had to change with age
Favourite kobudo weapon: tonfa (wooden stick with handle)
